Hoppy Smith - Head PGA Professional

A native of MS, Hoppy became a professional in 1993.  He served his apprenticeship under Kenny Hughes, PGA at the Broadwater Sun Course from 1993 – 1996.  On August 1, 1996 he was elected to the PGA of America and joined the Diamondhead Country Club as Head Golf Professional in December, 1996.  During this time he was awarded 1999 Regional Club Fitter of the Year by Ping; voted Gulf Coast Teacher of the Year by his peers in 2004, and in 2008 achieved a G.S.E.B. (Golf Stroke Engineering Bachelors) with the Golfing Machine and is now working towards his Masters.

     
     

 
 

Rob Murphy - Assistant Professional

Rob attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he played two seasons of college golf and qualified for the Mississippi All Tournament Teams.  After turning professional in 2003, he worked at Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Hattiesburg, MS and The Preserve Golf Club and Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi, MS.  He is currently a member of the Gulf States PGA working towards full classification and has been part of the Diamondhead golf team since 2004.

     
     

 

Gregg Altese - Assistant Professional

A Gulf Coast native, Gregg is a graduate of Mississippi State University. After many years in the corporate world, Gregg took his love for the game of golf to another level and joined the PGA as an apprentice in 2000. Prior to joining Diamondhead in 2007, he was the Assistant Professional at The Oaks in Pass Christian from 1999-2005. He enjoys the opportunity to promote the life event called Golf.

     
     


 

Jimmy Shannon - Golf Superintendent

Jimmy Shannon, a MS State graduate with a BS in Agronomy/Golf & Sports Turf Management has 10 years experience as a golf course superintendent and over 15 years experience in the golf industry.  He is a long time member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.  Prior to joining the Diamondhead Country Club he was the Superintendent at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Gadsden, AL where he led the course’s involvement in The Audubon Silver Signature Sanctuary Program which integrates natural resource conservation with economic progress and community education.  He has so held positions at the Emerald Bay Golf Club in Destin, FL and Kiva Dunes Golf Club in Gulf Shores, AL.
