Diamondhead development was started in the early 1970's on 6,000 acres of land about halfway between Mobile and New Orleans. Diamondhead has evolved into a growing community of 9,000 residents with an active business district.
The emphasis in Diamondhead is on recreation and enjoyment for residents and guests alike. There are two championship golf courses threading through beautiful rolling residential areas. The development also includes four pools, three recreation areas, a marina with boat storage and access to the Bay of St. Louis, a world class tennis facility with ten lighted clay courts, as well as two dining facilities located in the Country Club and in the Yacht Club. the modern Country Club features 6,000 square feet of function and banquet space including a large ballroom. Diamondhead also includes an airport with some lots having direct residential access.
Diamondhead is an unincorporated area managed by an elected board of eleven residents who serve on a volunteer basis. There are 104 fulltime and a varying number of part time support staff under the direction of the General Manager and a $7,800,000 budget operates and maintains the amenities as well as 100 miles of roads and an extensive drainage system.
Major services in Diamondhead include a contract security service, separate Sewer and Water District and Fire District, Coast Electric Power Association, Cable One TV service and Waste Management Inc. waste and recycling services.
